ABOUT

Hi! I'm Shannon.

I'm so glad you're here!

HELLO!

I'M SHANNON

I'm on a mission to provide women with the education, resources and support they need so that they are inspired & empowered to take proactive care of their heart health and live longer, healthier and happier lives.

How it all started...

My heart health journey began in my twenties, when my mom, just 49, suffered a massive heart attack. That moment changed everything - I discovered my strong genetic risk for heart disease. Instead of feeling powerless, I took action. While I couldn’t change my genes, I could learn about and lower all my other risk factors. I became proactive—monitoring my “numbers” yearly (cholesterol, triglycerides, etc.), embracing a heart-healthy lifestyle, and taking charge of my future.

Despite my best efforts, genetics caught up with me at 53 when I was diagnosed with early stages coronary artery disease, but I used that experience as fuel. I doubled down on my mission to protect my heart and inspire other women to do the same. My journey taught me that prevention is power, and I’m living proof that you can rewrite your story. As a Women’s Heart Health coach, I’m dedicated to helping you take charge of your heart health, overcome your own risks, and live a vibrant, empowered life. Together, we can protect your heart and create the joyful, healthy future you deserve.

Why you can trust me.

I have twenty years of experience as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and I'm a Certified Mindfulness Meditation Coach and 200 Hour Yoga Teacher.

I'm also a Certified Culinary Nutrition Expert, freelance writer and public speaker.

I've been a faculty member of the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, for whom I've written curriculum and workbooks, and a Guest Lecturer in Nutrition at The International School of Brussels, Belgium.

In 2016 I was selected as an Ambassador for Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution, a global campaign to change the way our children access, consume and understand food. I'm on the Planning Committee of Wear Red Canada, a national organization dedicated to raising awareness about women's heart disease, and I am a Lay Reviewer of grant applications to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation.

I have a Bachelor's Degree from King's College and hold certificates in Trauma Informed Mindfulness Coaching, Mindful Self-Compassion, Grief Informed Care, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (Teens), Embodied Teaching and Culinary Nutrition.

BUT most importantly I have lived experience of the realities of heart disease prevention and management. I've lost and kept off over 70 lbs. I'd rather read a book than go running. I'm not special. I've just commited to learning about and commiting to a heart healthy lifestyle. If I can do it, you can, too!!

Past Clients Have Said...

After participating in Shannon Sponagle’s group meditation course I have shifted my old belief that mediation isn’t for me and found ways to fit both informal and formal practices into my life.

It was easier than I thought to develop healthy eating habits with Shannon's recommendations. Making gradual changes that were realistic and practical allowed me to lose weight and I feel so much better. I have lots more energy !

Shannon’s teaching methods are gentle, accessible and she gave me the confidence to get past the limitations I placed on myself.

Some of my beliefs...

Eating should be a pleasure. Good nutrition isn't complicated.

Movement should be fun, not a chore.

Mindfulness is for everyone and doesn't mean clearing your mind.

Motivation comes and goes. Plans and habits are golden.

Happiness is your birthright.

Support and accountability are the missing piece in most plans.
